Abstract.<\/strong> I argue that, in order to have a proper understanding of Carnap\u2019s views
\non ontology in his \u2018Empiricism, Semantics, and Ontology\u2019, one must take into
\naccount an assumption explicitly formulated elsewhere regarding what should be
\ntaken as \u2018real\u2019. Approached in this manner, his views are a lot more powerful
\nthan may seem otherwise. The proper role of ontology is considered and some
\nmisunderstandings regarding facts and language are cleared away. An
\nexplanation of the separation of linguistic frameworks in terms of functional
\ncategories is briefly discussed and a few observations are made about the relation
\nbetween ontology and metaphysics.<\/p>\n
